OUR STORY

New City Fellowship was started out the vision to see a blended family of diverse people seeking a greater worship of Jesus in the southeast Broward area.


2014

Pastor John and family move back to South Florida from St. Louis, where John had been pastoring for six years. In partnership with Park Road Presbyterian Church, the groundwork for a new church is laid.


2015

The Houmes family hosts a weekly gathering for prayer, friendship and Bible study in their home. The growing core group serves the city by helping the elderly clean their gardens and lawns once a month.


2016

New City “flips” church by putting their primary focus on serving others and doing good in the community. The people of New City participate in a food distribution and Bible study for the homeless in Arts Park, hosts a week of Kids Bible Club, passes out donuts and water bottles to bless their neighbors, and participates in the Fatherhood Mentorship Program. In November 2016, New City launches its public worship services.


2017

New City starts a beach evangelism initiative, outreach for neighborhood school kids, and has their first baptism. In November, one hundred and over twenty five people attend New City’s one year anniversary service, the biggest attendance yet.


2018

God provides a facility for New City to have 24/7. The people of the church raise money and renovate the building. This would allow New City to launch new ministries, like a mom’s support group, a recovery group for women, men’s weekly prayer, mid-week Bible study, Alpha Course, Angel Tree project, and others.


2019

With a new home established, New City begins to build and grow, expanding ministries and growing in Sunday morning attendance. New City hosts its first out of town mission team and the South Broward Ministerial Alliance’s MLK Celebration.


2020

In January of 2020, New City hits its stride, with growing attendance, partnerships with other churches and a solid volunteer base. COVID hits and New City gets another opportunity to prove her resiliency. Ministries move online. Church members step up to take care of those in need in their community and join hands with other black churches during a culturally divided summer.


2021

The church builds her ministries back, hosting another summer Bible club with the youth from Park Road Pres.


2022

The leadership of the church is expanded, and begins to sense that the 2740 Van Buren Street location is not God’s permanent home for them. New City serves the city by volunteering as mentors in the Broward County Juvenile Detention Center and organizing an Angel Tree Christmas gift project for the children of the incarcerated.


2023

In May, New City learns that their home of five years has been sold and they will have to move. New City moves to Sunday nights at Park Road Pres and has their seventh anniversary celebration in TY Park.


2024

New City has her first church mission trip, sending a team to Togo West Africa. The church continues to pray for God to provide another facility so we can have a place to call our own and meet again on Sunday mornings.
